Women’s Resources to present Leadership Launch Seminar at UHV

A day-long Leadership Launch seminar is scheduled for women in the Crossroads region who want to improve their professional skills and develop their leadership potential.

The seminar will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguar Hall, 2705 Houston Highway. It is being offered through the Women’s Resources organization and sponsors UHV, Alcoa, First Victoria and TDECU.

“This seminar is designed for women who want a fast-paced learning experience that will give them tools they can use to chart successful careers,” said Margaret Rice, UHV chief of staff. “The perfect candidates for the seminar are women who are motivated, in the early stages of their leadership path, willing to set goals in all areas of their lives, and interested in engaging and giving back to the community where they live.”

Women’s Resources, based in Dallas, is a nonprofit, educational organization that develops programs to advance and improve the personal, economic and professional status of women. The organization’s longest-running program is Leadership Texas, which will mark its 30th year in 2012. Leadership Launch is a new program delivered in select communities throughout the state.

Area business owners with high-potential female employees will benefit from sending them to the seminar. Leadership Launch will offer a customized training environment in time management, financial acumen, negotiation and other professional skills.

“Those who attend will gain methods for improvement, an action plan for moving forward, a ‘purpose partner’ to help track progress, and a network of professional women who are leaders in the community,” Rice said.

The interactive agenda, led by a team of leadership development experts, is filled with engaging presentations, introspective group discussions and tips that address leadership styles, personal growth, financial awareness and work-life integration.

Participants will explore personal and professional awareness as it relates to leadership, career path, responsibility and accountability; gain awareness of strengths to build upon; develop priorities for their professional and personal life; clarify personal values; and identify ways to exercise positive power and effective influence.

“This program is structured to benefit local, emerging women leaders through the support of Women’s Resources and graduates of the program,” Rice said. “The day ends with a reception that connects participants with community peers and established women leaders whom they may not otherwise have a chance to meet.”

The registration deadline is Sept. 27, and participants may register by going to https://www.womensresources.org/appLLApplication.asp. The inclusive rate of $200 covers all workshop activities, materials, printed photo and bio participant directory; breakfast, lunch and afternoon reception; and a one-year’s paid associate membership in Women’s Resources that provides other opportunities and events.
