UHV Supports Local Nonprofits Through Third Annual “Giving Tree”

Local nonprofit organizations will get a holiday boost in donations this year from University of Houston-Victoria students, faculty and staff as they participate in the third annual “Giving Tree.” Sponsored by the UHV Student Senate, the donation drive will begin Friday, December 1, at 10 a.m. with a tree-trimming event in the University Center foyer.

Community members who would like to contribute to the Giving Tree drive may do so December 1-17 by bringing donations to UHV and leaving them under the tree. Clothing and linens should be new or gently used, and all items should be unwrapped.

Five local nonprofit organizations will benefit from the donation drive: Perpetual Help Home, Crossroads Youth and Family Services, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Mid-Coast Family Services and the Salvation Army. Items sought range from household goods and toiletries to Christmas gifts for children and canned food items. A complete list is available online at www.uhv.edu.

“Community partnerships that positively affect the quality of life for everyone in the region are a fundamental part of UHV’s mission,” said UHV President Tim Hudson. “The generous gifts left under the Giving Tree are a great example of just how much our students, faculty and staff take that to heart.”
