SBDC seminar to dissect business financing options

Small business owners wanting to find out more about loan programs and alternative financing methods can attend a free seminar Nov. 14 at the University of Houston-Victoria.

Annie Hudspeth

The UHV Small Business Development Center and the U.S. Small Business Administration are teaming up to present “SBA & Financing Your Business – Alternative Financing.” The seminar will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the SBDC office, 3402 N. Ben Wilson St.

Annie Hudspeth, lender relations specialist for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s San Antonio District Office, will lead the seminar. Among the alternative funding sources she will discuss are:

  • SBA loan guarantees
  • Microloans
  • Factoring companies

“This will be an informative seminar with a lot of useful information for existing business owners and people interested in starting a business,” UHV SBDC Director Joe Humphreys said. “Access to financial capital is such a critical component for a successful small business, so the more business owners know about the options, the better off they will be.”

Joe Humphreys

Hudspeth has extensive experience counseling on financing options for small businesses. She has worked in processing, servicing and liquidation of SBA loans. She currently is assigned to the lender relations division, where she assists lenders with eligibility, servicing and loan liquidation questions, as well as marketing SBA products and services to the public in a 55-county district.

The UHV SBDC offers assistance on starting, growing and financing a business; contracting opportunities; and recovering from disaster. It also helps new businesses start and existing businesses expand through a combination of consulting and training in areas like market identification, raising capital and developing a business plan. Most of its services are free to area small business owners. The center serves Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, DeWitt, Gonzales, Goliad, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca, Refugio and Victoria counties.
