Jaguars sign first ever student athlete

Amber Scott has signed a letter of intent to play collegiate softball with the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars.

Scott is currently playing junior college ball for the Galveston College Whitecaps and leads the team in batting average (.427), hits (67), runs (45) and stolen bases (16).

Jaguars head softball Coach Keri Lambeth is excited about what Scott will bring to the team. “Amber will be a key player for the Jaguars as a leader in the outfield and hitting at the top of our lineup. She is a play maker and knows how to get the job done. I''m expecting great things from her as our first Jaguar athlete.”

Scott’s current head coach has no doubts about her ability. “Amber will succeed at the next level because she has all the attributes of a great player,” said Galveston College head softball coach Ken Delcambre, “Amber also has a burning desire to win, every time she sets foot on the field, this is her mind set. You definitely have a winner with Amber”

UHV President Tim Hudson says Scott''s signing is proof that UHV is moving in the right direction. "Amber agreeing to attend UHV is an example of UHV moving forward and becoming a university of choice. Softball, baseball and our new RN to BSN program are ways we are reaching out to students that would not have enrolled at UHV in the past." Lambeth is also sure that Scott will be just as good a student as she is a ball player. “Amber is the total student-athlete; excellent grades and excellent skills.” The Jaguars’ inaugural softball season begins in February 2008.
