Employers from across Texas and the nation are ready to recruit University of Houston-Victoria students, graduates and members of the Victoria community through a number of upcoming career fairs and information sessions.
UHV will host its annual Spring Career Fair from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on April 9 in the University Center Multi-Purpose Room, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. The event is free for job seekers and is open to the public. Attendees should dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes.

“This fair is primarily for people looking for full-time employment,” said Amy Hatmaker, UHV Career Services manager. “However, any student looking for internship opportunities also should come. Those who plan to graduate within the next year or two also could benefit from this event.”
The career fair is open to all majors, and a variety of industries will be represented. The U.S. Army and Navy will be sending recruiters, and representatives from law enforcement agencies, school districts, Wal-Mart, Advocate Digital Media, DeTar Healthcare System, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and Devereux Foundation will be among those in attendance. In addition, at least two new employers will be attending this year’s fair – Texana Ford Buick GMC and Crawford Electric Supply.
Regency Post-Acute Healthcare System has participated in UHV’s career fairs for years, said Jenny Gutierres, corporate recruiting manager with Regency. The company employs many UHV graduates, and Gutierres hopes to meet more candidates at the fair.

“Career fairs are important to us because we want to recruit local talent and let the community and UHV students know that Regency is a major employer in Victoria,” Gutierres said. “Many people don’t know that Regency employs more than 4,000 Texans, and we are in the midst of growth, so there are plenty of opportunities for employment in our system.”
UHV students who want to learn about a specific industry or company should consider coming to the career fair, Hatmaker said. Even if students are a few years from graduation, they have the opportunity to get experience interviewing and interacting with potential employers.
In addition to the career fair, a recruiter from the U.S. State Department will visit UHV from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday in the UHV University West Alcorn Auditorium, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. The information session is open to the public and will highlight the various employment opportunities at the State Department.
On April 17, education students, alumni and teachers are invited to attend the Education Job Fair hosted by the UHV School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development. The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the University Center Multi-Purpose Room. Districts from as far away as Alaska will be attending.
