UHV's Heather Shake practices her chipping. She was named to the NAIA Women's Golf All-America first team on Monday. |
University of Houston-Victoria’s Heather Shake was named Monday to the 2015 NAIA Women’s Golf All-America first team.
It was the second straight year for the sophomore from Pearland to earn All-America recognition from the NAIA. Last year she was named to the second team.
After challenging for the individual lead over the first three rounds of the NAIA National Championships last week, Shake finished tied for seventh after
posting a 15-over par 303. Shake had rounds of 73-70-78-82 at the tournament, her second straight appearance at nationals.
The UHV Female Athlete of the Year joined 14 other student-athletes from across the country on the All-America first team.
This season Shake won three individual titles and finished in the top five in four other events. She finished the season with a 72.71 scoring average in
eight events.
She won her first event of the year, the UHV Fall Classic, in record fashion posting a 14-under par 202 with rounds of 69-66-67. She then captured the
Trinity Alamo Classic with a 1-over 143 for back-to-back wins.
Just before going to the NAIA nationals, Shake captured her second straight individual title at the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships in Florida
with a 2-under par 212. She posted rounds of 67-78-67 at the event.
