The next phase in the evolution of the Jaguar is complete. The University of Houston-Victoria unveiled its new Jaguars athletic logo at a press conference today. The new logo and athletic colors were presented to an audience made up of UHV students, faculty, staff, supporters and fans. Jaguar athletes were also on hand for the festivities and those in attendance had a chance to meet and greet the first ever athletic teams at UHV.

 

“This is a great step forward in the evolution of this university,” said UHV President, Dr. Tim Hudson. “This logo will give the student-athletes an identity; it will provide the university and community with a symbol they can be proud to display. It’s just another step in UHV becoming a university of choice in the region and even internationally.”

 

The logo features a roaring Jaguar prowling over the top of the word Jaguars. The primary colors in the logo are red and gold. The colors are not new but a new emphasis on existing colors according to UHV athletic director Ashley Walyuchow.

 

“Our school colors are purple, red and gold and we will emphasize the red and gold to help identify the athletics department,” said Walyuchow. “The colors were tested with current students, staff, faculty, alumni and others and the overwhelming response was in favor of this direction.”

 

Incoming pitcher Casey Newman was one of those in favor of the look.

 

“I think it’s very cool. The colors are great and really go well together. The look should translate into some cool uniforms.”

 

The department also took the opportunity to unveil its revamped webpage. The page incorporates the athletic colors, logo and features that are more fan friendly.

 

“The site looks great and I have to applaud Marci Wallace and the talented staff in IT that helped develop the site,” said Walyuchow. “The site has new features such as rosters, photos, the latest news, and statistics and eventually live stats to keep fans up to date as games are taking place.”

 

The site will also allow prospective athletes and recruits to submit their information and learn more about the softball and baseball programs, as well as, admission requirements for UHV. The website is http://www.uhv.edu/athletics/jaguars
