David White, a University of Houston-Victoria student who recently completed the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, is now the Brazosport Regional Memorial Health System director of Critical Care and Telemetry in Lake Jackson, TX.
White was enrolled in the first class of the RN to BSN Program.
“I felt proud, and I also felt it was encouraging to other people being in the first class,” White said. “When I enrolled in the classes I was working at Detar Hospital, and I think it prompted a lot of the other nurses working there to enroll in the BSN Program as well.
“After I enrolled and helped spread the word about the program, 90 percent of the nurses in the first class were DeTar Hospital nurses,” White added.
White said his bachelor’s degree offered him many nursing career options.
“This program really increased my management ability, and it allowed me to perform other nursing roles,” White said. “I’ve got a very well-paying management job because of it, and I intend to enroll in the graduate program just as soon as it becomes available.”
White said the one-day-a-week nursing courses were designed with the “working student in mind.”
Jeanette Hartshorn director of nursing said, “David was an excellent student and demonstrated both his scholarly and leadership abilities throughout the program. We are looking forward to him joining our MSN program.”
