In today’s world, good credit is a valuable resource, and area entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to learn how to make sure their credit is strong.
The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center will host the SBA Building a Better Credit Portfolio from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on June 16. The free workshop will be held in Room 110A of UHV University North, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.
“Small business owners have a lot to gain by building a strong credit portfolio,” UHV SBDC Director Joe Humphreys said. “Individuals often are told they need to keep a good credit score and check their credit reports, but not everyone knows that it’s just as important for businesses to do the same.”
Annie Hudspeth, a lender relations specialist with the San Antonio Small Business Administration District Office, will present the discussion.
The workshop will explore how to determine and improve credit ratings. Hudspeth also will give useful tools for entrepreneurs seeking loans and look into how lenders use credit reports and scores. Other areas covered will include what credit reports and credit scores are, how to obtain credit reports and how credit histories affect consumers.
“Good credit is a sign to others that a business can be trusted in matters of finances,” said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. “This workshop will help area entrepreneurs take steps to make sure they can present themselves and their businesses as stable and responsible.”
The UHV SBDC offers assistance on starting, growing and financing a business; contracting opportunities; and recovering from disaster. Most of its services are free to area small business owners in Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, DeWitt, Gonzales, Goliad, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca, Refugio and Victoria counties. It is part of a nationwide small business assistance program serving the small business community and federal, state and local governments.
