An administrator with the University of Houston-Victoria recently was given leadership and training opportunities as part of a national higher education organization.
Jay Lambert, UHV vice president for enrollment management and student affairs, was appointed to the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Academic Vice President Steering Committee. In addition, he was selected to be a faculty member for the 2016 NASPA Region III and Southern Association for College Student Affairs New Professionals Institute.
“UHV is fortunate to have administrators active in national committees and boards aimed at furthering higher education,” UHV President Vic Morgan said. “Dr. Lambert’s appointment is another step forward for UHV, and I look forward to seeing how his involvement will impact higher education in the nation and at UHV.”
Lambert’s term on the steering committee will run through March 6, 2018. The committee works to monitor the needs of academic vice presidents and higher education institutions, provide channels for communication, and help find volunteers and outreach opportunities. Committee members meet through regular conference calls and emails, and in person during the national conference in March.
“The main goal is to support and promote program education,” Lambert said. “The committee focuses on making connections and helping people who aspire to be in leadership positions. It’s important for professional development in the field of enrollment management.”
The New Professionals Institute is a weeklong professional development opportunity for new student affairs professionals in the South. It will take place Sunday to June 24 at Trinity University in San Antonio. Lambert was chosen to be a member of the institute faculty, and he will work with 12 new professionals to help guide them toward successful careers.
“The whole idea is to support professional development,” Lambert said. “As we work with new professionals and encourage them in their careers, we also keep them and others informed about new practices being used or developed. It’s an exciting opportunity, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to participate.”
In addition to his involvement with NASPA and SACSA, Lambert is involved in the Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators. Michael Wilkinson, UHV Student Life & Services director, and Brandon Lee, UHV Residence Life director also are involved in that group. In addition, Lambert serves on the board of directors for the YMCA of the Golden Crescent and on Oct. 1 will become president-elect for the Kiwanis Club of Victoria.
