UHV’s online HR management graduate program earns national ranking

A combination of accreditation, reputation and affordability put the University of Houston-Victoria human resources management program on a list of top online Master of Business Administration degrees.

UHV is ranked No. 38 in Online MBA Today’s national list of Top 50 Online MBA Programs in Human Resource Management.

The UHV School of Business Administration added the HR management concentrations in fall 2015 to its MBA and Bachelor of Business Administration degree options.

“The value placed in human resources has increased significantly in recent years, so getting well-prepared human resource personnel in place is important to many companies,” said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. “I’m proud the human resources management concentration already has received recognition in only its second full year of existence. It’s a testament to our faculty who put the program together and teach the classes.”

Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, a UHV management professor, said although the HR management classes are offered online this semester, there are a lot of personal touches between the instructors and the students.

“Our students mostly are working adults, and they bring their own wealth of work experience and practical knowledge to create a positive and engaging learning environment in the HR arena,” Ramamoorthy said.

Online MBA Today considered 380 online MBA programs. The rankings were based on five factors: cost, accreditation, prestige, graduation rates and early job earnings for graduates.

UHV is accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Since AACSB is widely regarded as the highest level of accreditation a business school can achieve, AACSB schools were given the highest marks in that category.

The university also fared well in cost and prestige. UHV’s tuition was the third lowest of the 50 schools that made the rankings. Prestige was measured by accolades UHV has received in prominent publications, such as U.S. News & World Report.

UHV offers a Strategic MBA with a human resource management concentration. Required courses include “Human Resources Management,” “Compensation and Employee Benefits” and

“Staffing and Employee Development.” Students also have the option of elective courses such as “Seminar in Employment Law” and “Management of Diversity in Organizations.”

Ramamoorthy said he and the other faculty members are active in research and have published in some of the top management journals.

“I think we do a great job integrating industry and consulting experience into what is taught in the classroom,” he said.
