Affordable Colleges Online is a national ranking organization that uses a scoring system to rate college and university degree programs. To be included in the lists, institutions must be nonprofit, accredited and have an annual in-state tuition of less than $20,000.

David Cockrum

Institutions that meet those criteria are graded on a 100-point scale using factors that include tuition, number of available programs, student-to-faculty ratio, graduation rate, counseling and job placement services, and financial aid. In every list, UHV scored in the mid-90s.

“Online education meets an important need for many nontraditional students,” said David Cockrum, interim UHV provost and vice president for academic affairs. “UHV is committed to offering an excellent, accessible education at an affordable price. No matter what our students’ circumstances, we work to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed.”

In every ranking, UHV received acknowledgement for its low tuition and high percentage of students who receive financial aid. More than 90 percent of UHV students receive some form of financial aid. In addition, the university was applauded for its low student-to-faculty ratio of 17-1.

“These rankings are clear evidence that UHV’s efforts are making a difference,” Cockrum said. “Above all, our commitment is to empower our students through education. Earning recognition for those efforts is a welcome bonus.”

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region, offers courses leading to more than 65 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and concentrations in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Human Development, and Nursing.
