A UHV graduate earned certification earlier this month as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.
Chad Hall, a Victoria resident who graduated from UHV in 2004 with his MBA, took the 225-question, four-hour test Jan. 19 at a Corpus Christi testing center and found out that day that he had passed.
“Human resources has evolved from a tactical, administrative profession,” said Hall, who is the human resources director at Regional Steel Products Inc. “Cutting-edge human resource professionals must align themselves as strategic business partners in their organizations and take a vested interest in developing employees as a source of sustainable competitive advantage. The strategic MBA and experiences I had at UHV prepared me to earn the SPHR certification and excel in my professional career.”
The certification, awarded by the Human Resource Certification Institute in Alexandria, Va., signifies that Hall has both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management to pass the rigorous examination. The reported pass rate for the exam in 2007 was 58 percent, and there were only 3,023 human resource professionals in Texas as of August who had received their SPHR certification.
“We’re really proud of Chad and this unique achievement,” said Charles Bullock, dean of the UHV School of Business Administration. “We’re not surprised he’s achieved such things given his success in our nationally accredited MBA program.”
Hall said he studied for about a year before taking the test.
