UHV School of Nursing receives $10,000 grant for lab equipment

SUGAR LAND – The Fred and Mabel R. Parks Foundation of Sugar Land recently awarded The University of Houston-Victoria School of Nursing a $10,000 grant to help students study with the best lab equipment available.

“The generosity of this foundation will benefit everyone who lives in the Fort Bend area by increasing the knowledge and skills of the nurses who will care for all of us at some point in our lives,” said Kathryn Tart, founding dean of the UHV School of Nursing.

The lab equipment will be installed in the new academic building presently under construction at the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 59 and University Boulevard. UHV will share the facility with Wharton County Junior College.

“Good laboratory facilities are essential in any sort of allied health education,” Tart said. “This gift from the Parks Foundation will help ensure the facilities for our Sugar Land nursing students will be nothing short of state-of-the-art.”

The new equipment includes a defibrillator, ventilator, vital signs monitor, portable electrocardiogram and other tools nursing students will use in their professional careers.

The UHV School of Nursing offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the University of Houston System at Sugar Land and the main Victoria campus.
