High school students expand math knowledge at UHV summer camp

Students pose Tuesday with Ricardo Teixeira, front row right, University of Houston-Victoria assistant professor of mathematics, during the first day of the university’s Math Summer Camp. Seven students from Woodsboro, Calhoun and Victoria West high schools are attending the camp to learn about theoretical concepts in advanced mathematics, including Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry, number theory, optimization and graphs. The camp started Tuesday and will end Friday. It is the first of four science, technology, engineering and mathematics-themed camps the university will offer this summer. The camp is funded by a grant from Alcoa Foundation.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region, offers courses leading to more than 65 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and concentrations in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Human Development, and Nursing.
