The University of Houston-Victoria will host the second annual Fiesta Day celebration Thursday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, which celebrates Hispanic culture and heritage in our community, will be held outdoors between the University West building and the Victoria College Student Center.
Fiesta Day performances will feature the Memorial High School Ballet Folklorico, the Victoria College Salsa Band and the musical group “Red Tide.” Frank Aguilar, a sculptor whose work is currently on exhibit at UHV, will be on hand to speak about his work. The event will also feature booths with student organizations selling food and arts and crafts.
At 11:30, lunch plates of beef enchiladas, chicken tacos, charro beans and Spanish rice will be sold for $6.25. Group pricing will be available for parties of 15 people or more. All proceeds will benefit the student scholarship fund at UHV.
“We’re planning for this year’s Fiesta Day to be bigger and better than last year’s,” said event organizer Danny Ochoa. “It’s a great way for people to see that learning at a university isn’t all books and studying. There’s an opportunity here to celebrate and learn from one another’s cultures.”
Fiesta Day is sponsored by UHV, The Victoria College, the Victoria Cultural Council, and the Victoria Chamber of Commerce. For more information, contact Danny Ochoa at (361) 570-4149 or Cheryl Robbins at (361) 570-4311.
