“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to launch a rewarding career as a military officer,” said Lawrence Rossow, dean of the School of Education & Human Development and a retired U.S. Army captain.

The program, which will start in the fall, is coordinated by the school but is open to all UHV students up to the beginning of their junior year.

Under the program, cadets will drive to Houston once a week for drill and two credit hours of course work each semester in military science. Upon graduation, students will receive a commission in the Air Force.

Other benefits of the program include scholarships and a $300-a-month stipend. SoEHD students will be reimbursed for mileage to and from Houston.

If the program should prove popular, UHV will look into launching its own affiliate program in the near future, Rossow said.
