“LinkedIn is a network of more than 40 million experienced professionals worldwide representing 170 industries, so it’s important to use as a tactic for success if you’re trying to find a job or get ahead in this highly competitive job market,” said Thorpe, author of “12.5 Ways to Get Ahead on LinkedIn.”

Thorpe’s presentation, which is sponsored by University of Houston-Victoria Career Services, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room GB 302 at the University of Houston System at Sugar Land, 14000 University Blvd. Although the presentation is free and open to the public, those interested must register in order to attend as seating is limited.

Thorpe founded Jobs Ministry Southwest in Richmond in August of 2008. The nonprofit community organization specializes in helping job seekers with outplacement services and developing a more successful job search process.

Prior to creating JMS, Thorpe earned a Master of Business Administration while on active duty as an officer with the U.S. Army. He later served as a division manager and commercial banker for 19 years with JPM Chase, working mainly in real estate and mortgage finance operations.

After an early retirement from banking, he spent 10 years as an entrepreneur and founded three service delivery companies. The book “12.5 Ways to Get Ahead on LinkedIn” is part of a “12.5 Ways” series of career planning and job transition guidebooks written by Thorpe.
