First UHV Jaguar Day draws nearly 100 to Victoria campus

Nearly 100 University of Houston-Victoria prospective freshmen, transfer students and their parents came to UHV Jaguar Day on Saturday to learn more about the university and watch a Jaguars baseball game.

“It went really well,” said Denee Thomas, UHV director of Letting Education Achieve Dreams and Student Recruitment. “We got a lot of positive comments from both parents and students about everything from the tours to our friendly and knowledgeable UHV employees.”

UHV Jaguar Day allowed prospective students and their parents to tour the Victoria campus and meet and ask questions of the UHV deans, faculty and staff in charge of admissions, registration, financial aid and other areas. Victoria Mayor Will Armstrong welcomed those who attended, and they also got to hear from key university administrators and students.

Out of the 34 prospective students at the event, 21 already had been accepted to UHV and were trying to make a decision about where they would go to college in the fall.

“We had several students who said they were trying to decide between schools, but after attending Jaguar Day, they knew they would be coming to UHV,” Thomas said.

After the on-campus portion of Jaguar Day, those attending went to Riverside Park for a tailgate with UHV students, alumni and university leaders, including President Tim Hudson, and to watch a free UHV Jaguars baseball game.

The next UHV Jaguar Day will take place April 17. For more information, contact Thomas at ext. 149.
