Williamson takes over women's golf program

Brian Williamson

The University of Houston-Victoria men’s golf coach Brian Williamson, who has handled the women’s program since the resignation of coach Whitney Stromgrem, has been named the new women’s golf coach.

Williamson served as coach for both teams in the fall following Stromgrem’s resignation before the season started.

“Having to reopen the search for a new coach we found that the best candidate for the position was right here in Brian,” UHV Athletics Director Ashley Walyuchow said in making the announcement.

Under Williamson’s guidance in the fall, the inaugural UHV women’s golf team finished second at the Texas Lutheran Bulldog Fall Classic and seventh at the Sam Houston State Harold Funston Women’s Golf Classic.

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to guide this new program and look forward to not only working with our outstanding athletes but recruiting our future athletes as well,” Williamson said.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Williams has been a professional golfer and international teaching professional for more than 25 years. He also serves as the golf and teaching professional at the Cuero Golf Course.

The Jaguars are set to open up the 2011 spring season on their home course at Victoria Country Club in the Texas State Claud Jacobs Challenge set for Feb. 12-14.
