Website recognizes three UHV degrees for affordability

Education technology company College Factual recently named three UHV programs in finance, literacy and creative writing as some of the most affordable in the nation.

The rankings were:

  • No. 3 – Most Affordable Online Bachelor’s of Finance Degrees
  • No. 6 – Most Affordable Online Master’s in Reading and Literacy
  • No. 6 – Most Affordable Online Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Degrees

Each ranking was based on UHV’s accreditation and tuition. UHV is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges. The tuition and fees for an undergraduate Texas resident taking 15 hours in both the fall and spring semesters at UHV is $7,969 for the 2018-2019 school year. A Texas resident taking nine master-level hours in the fall and spring would pay $7,559 in tuition and fees for the year.

Chuck Stowe

College Factual ranked the UHV School of Business Administration’s Bachelor of Business Administration in finance third in its list of the 30 most affordable online programs in the nation. In addition to UHV’s accreditation, the business school is accredited through AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which accredits less than 5 percent of business schools throughout the world.

“Our business school offers students a unique opportunity to earn a world-class degree for an affordable price,” said Chuck Stowe, UHV School of Business Administration interim dean. “As our AACSB International accreditation shows, UHV has an outstanding program that prepares our students to become leaders in business. This ranking is a welcome acknowledgement.”

Fred Litton

The website also ranked the UHV School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development’s Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in literacy studies as the sixth most affordable program in the nation. The program allows students to pursue two separate concentrations: literacy studies or reading specialist. The program also offers students the option to earn two certifications: the master reading teacher certification and the reading specialist certification.

“Literacy is a cornerstone of education, and UHV’s program is designed to train educators to meet the needs of their students,” said Fred Litton, dean of the UHV School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development. “Many of our graduate students are working educators, and it is important that we offer them an affordable, convenient option to improve their own knowledge so they can help their students.”

Jeffrey Di Leo

The website’s top 30 graduate creative writing degrees list named the UHV School of Arts & Sciences’ Master of Fine Arts in creative writing the sixth most affordable online program in the nation. The program is offered completely online, and offers courses that help students improve and develop their own writing while also learning about the publishing industry and various writing genres.

“A creative writing degree gives students the skills they need to work in many careers, not just as poets and novelists, including technical writing, communications, content creation, marketing and more,” said Jeffrey Di Leo, dean of the UHV School of Arts & Sciences. “Whether our students hope to become successful novelists or wish to improve their writing skills for their current careers, our excellent faculty members are able to help them reach their writing goals.”
