62 UHV athletes earn RRAC academic honor

University of Houston-Victoria student-athletes continue to achieve in the classroom with nearly 50 percent of the athletes earning Red River Athletic Conference GPA Awards recognition for the 2018-19 academic year.

In their fourth year of competition in the RRAC, the Jaguars had 62 student-athletes recognized Wednesday for academic success by the conference.

Individual student-athletes who achieve a 3.0 GPA or better for the year are recognized as RRAC scholar-athletes.

The UHV men’s soccer paced the Jaguars with 17 selections, followed closely by the softball team with 16 and the women’s soccer team with 15. They were followed by baseball (7), men’s golf (5) and women’s golf (2).

Among the men’s soccer players recognized were Kyle Brown, Joe Chapman, Jacob Collen, Erik Faeltstroem, Louie Fox, Tristan Flores, Uriel Garcia, Daniel Gribben, Jean Bosco Irumva, Sanad Jalajal, Gifanho Lubaki, Connor McCartney, Brody Patience, Alex Pugh, Henry Suazo, Connagh Wilks and Gian Marco Zancanaro.

Recognized from the UHV softball team were Alyssa Adames, Peyton Branham, Lauren Caka, Angelica Davidson, Gabby Davila, Jamison Dumont, Emily Flores, Jordan Hoefling, Jaqueline Longoria, Marissa Longoria, Marisa Mendoza, Michelle Revels, Ashley Reyna, Kelsey Tidrick, Abigail Torres and Alexis Zarate.

Named to the award from the women’s soccer team were Sabrina Calderon, Nathalia Canizales, Jacquelyn Clendening, Kaylie Creagh, Sutton Dalrymple, Maria Grogan, Kiki Hinojosa, Yessy Hinojosa, Hayden Janner, Lauren Leslie, Freja Magnussen. Elizabeth McDonald, Angela Nava, Nisa Ollivierre, and Chloe Rodriguez.

Selected for the honor from the baseball team were Jacob Atkinson, Nathaniel Edison, Bailey Kolb, Tyler Price, Chase Tamez, Zachariah Vela and Austin Wailes.

Among the golfers earning the honor were Mary Kate Krueger, Kelly Swanson, Benjamin Lake, Ryan Morant, Corey Rodriguez, James Rollins, and Adrian Saenz.

A total of 871 individuals across the conference were named scholar-athletes with Wiley College claiming the RRAC GPA Team Award with an overall GPA of 3.14.

The RRAC GPA Award is presented annually to the athletic program with the best cumulative GPA among all of its student-athletes in the most recent academic year.
