UHV SBDC to host Google online business workshop

Entrepreneurs who want to make the jump to promoting their business online are invited to an upcoming hands-on training from a representative of a top technology company.

The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center and Google will sponsor two free “Texas Get Your Business Online” workshops on Wednesday in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. The first session will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second event will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Jon Ray leads a team of Google ambassadors on a project called “G-Feet,” representing Google’s “feet in the street.” The team teaches business owners across the nation the best practices for using the Internet to promote and grow their business online.

“If you don’t already have a website, our Web professionals will walk you through the process of creating your first website from start to finish,” Ray said. “We have everything an entrepreneur needs to establish an online presence and will explain our tools and resources to get online and succeed.”

Participants will use Google-provided laptops for the hands-on portion of the training. Attendees will learn how to build a free, easily constructed website, find out how to market their business on the Web, and learn how to use the company’s Web-based products to find customers and run their business more effectively.

“Establishing an online presence is a must for any business, large or small,” said Joe Humphreys, UHV SBDC interim director. “This workshop can get participants past the hurdle of getting a website established, as well as address other aspects of online business.”
