UHV SBDC to offer free seminar series for new business owners
The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center is offering a three-part seminar for new and aspiring small business owners needing to learn the basics of organizing and managing a business.
“Smart Money for Small Business” is a seminar series developed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the U.S. Small Business Administration. It will cover topics such as organization types, time management, tax information and risk management. It also will cover banking services available to small businesses and financial information.

The three classes will be 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 22 and June 5 at the UHV SBDC Victoria office, 3402 N. Ben Wilson St. The seminar series is free to the public and includes a take-home manual. Space is limited, so interested participants are encouraged to register soon.
UHV SBDC Director Joe Humphreys said the seminar series is perfect for those thinking about starting a business or who already own a small business. The curriculum serves as a foundation for more advanced financial training and technical assistance offered by the center.
“The seminar covers basics for small businesses succeeding,” he said. “This is a great starting point for those who don’t have formal training or a business background.”
The UHV SBDC offers assistance on starting, growing and financing a business; contracting opportunities; and recovering from disaster. Most of its services are free to area small business owners in Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, DeWitt, Gonzales, Goliad, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca, Refugio and Victoria counties.
