Miranda Medina, an education student at the University of Houston-Victoria, was recently awarded a student scholarship at the Texas Computer Education Association annual convention held in Austin in early February. Medina, a Bay City resident, was one of three winners selected for dedication to the integration of technology into the classroom curriculum.

Miranda Medina—who was in competition with nominees from across the state—was selected by a committee of TCEA members to receive the Richard A. Brown Scholarship for Students. This award which supports professional growth in technology is presented to practicing and pre-service educators who encourage and enhance the learning of technology skills.

UHV Education Professor and TCEA Area 3 Director Dr. Dennis R. Riedesel noted, “I was extremely delighted that Miranda was honored at this year’s convention. Her commitment to furthering the knowledge of technology education in our schools should be commended.”

TCEA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction. More than 13,000 people—principals, superintendents, teachers, technology specialists and curriculum specialists—attended this year''s convention.

“Ms. Medina is a fine example of how UHV students excel academically. Her commitment to enhance the education profession through technology is applauded,” said UHV President Dr. Tim Hudson. “She will be an asset in the classroom and to her students.”

Medina was presented with a plaque and a $1,000 scholarship from TCEA during a keynote session at the annual event. Each of the other two finalists also received a $1,000 scholarship.
