Get ready for fall classes at UHV Open House

Billy Lagal

The University of Houston-Victoria is hosting an open house on Aug. 8 to provide helpful information and assistance to current, new and prospective students.

Returning UHV students can take care of several enrollment-related steps all at once by attending the open house, while new and prospective students can learn more about admissions, financial aid and housing.

The UHV Open House will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. There is no cost to attend, and no advance registration is required.

UHV representatives from the four academic schools and different service departments will be on hand to direct students through any requirements they need to complete before the semester starts. Students can talk with an adviser about degree plans, update student records, renew financial aid, sign up for classes or make a fee payment.

“As the summer begins to wind down, we realize that students are looking to finalize everything before the first day of class,” said Billy Lagal, manager of UHV’s Letting Education Achieve Dreams and student recruitment programs. “Rather than having to make trips to different UHV offices, everything the students need will be in one place at one time.”

The open house also is an opportunity for new, prospective or transfer students to learn more about the university. Attendees can take a campus tour, talk with advisers and apply for admissions and financial aid. They also can sign up to live in Jaguar Village and learn about student life activities.

Lagal said there’s still time for new and returning students to register for classes for the fall semester. Registration is open until Aug. 21. Fall classes begin Aug. 26.

Students who are transferring from another school, or who are heading back to college, can bring a copy of their unofficial transcripts for on-site advising or registration. Any necessary immunization documentation, including a record of the state-required bacterial meningitis vaccine for students under age 30, also can be brought along.
