Let the Good Times ROAR selected as UHV’s 2017 homecoming theme
A roaring good time is in store for attendees of the 2017 University of Houston-Victoria Homecoming.
Let the Good Times ROAR is this year’s homecoming theme. The Roaring ’20s will be incorporated into some of the events planned for homecoming week March 20 to 25.
“The selected theme allows for a number of different ways that students can get creative with their programming throughout the week,” said Mike Wilkinson, UHV Student Life & Services director. “The theme is bold and reflective of all of the recent positive growth and expansion of services that UHV has experienced as an institution on our way to becoming a destination university.”
After an 18-year absence, UHV re-instituted homecoming in 2016. The university plans to make it an annual event every spring.
“Homecoming is a new tradition and something that the student body values tremendously,” UHV President Vic Morgan said. “It also is a great chance to invite the Victoria community to see what’s happening at our university.”
UHV students voted on this year’s theme. Let the Good Times ROAR got the most votes out of four choices. Wilkinson said he thought the connection to music was the No. 1 reason the theme won.
The week will begin with a kickoff concert that will have a surprise twist incorporating the musical influences of the 1920s, Wilkinson said. Another event scheduled is a Roaring ’20s-themed dance.
Some of the other events planned for homecoming week include a talent show, president’s tailgate, carnival, comedy show and alumni banquet. UHV also will unveil the university’s new official class ring during the week.
Kira Mudd, UHV director of alumni relations and annual giving, said last year’s inaugural alumni banquet had a tremendous turnout with 140 attendees. The event provided a fun and festive platform for recognizing selected distinguished alumni.
“Homecoming is an exciting time for alumni to come together and reconnect with UHV and each other,” Mudd said. “This year, we are looking forward to hosting another evening of celebration with even more graduates. I’m excited to talk to alumni from all graduation years and hear about their memories and experiences at UHV.”
