UHV makes food bank donation

The University of Houston-Victoria recently donated food worth more than $4,000 to the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent. Items donated included canned, refrigerated and frozen food. Standing with some of the donated items are Alvaro De La Cruz, left, UHV Student Government Association president; Michael Wilkinson, director of UHV Student Life & Services; Chris Hogan, a food bank warehouse employee; and Luanna Heysquierdo, a food bank ambassador. In the past, students have donated the value of meals from their meal plans during the annual Food Fight event. The SGA also collects donations for the food bank through the UHV Giving Tree, and students volunteer at the food bank for Jags Join In: Day of Service during National Volunteer Week as well as during other events throughout the year. The university is working with the food bank on a food pantry initiative.
