The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center recently earned reaccreditation for the next five years by the Association of Small Business Development Centers.

The certification process included visits by a team of ASBDC accreditation officials reviewing the documentable economic impact of the center, how well it was managed in compliance with the rules and regulations of the system, and its effective use of strategic planning, UHV SBDC Director Joe Harper said.

The University of Texas at San Antonio Small Business Development Region, of which the UHV SBDC is a part, received one of the highest reaccreditation scores of the 64 regions in the country, Harper said.

Several SBDC employees also recently received advanced professional certifications from the UTSA Southwest Texas Border Region Network. Cindy Ozuna became a certified administrative professional. Lisa Barr, senior business advisor, became a certified business advisor, level IV, the highest certification available. Eileen Bonner, senior rural business advisor, became a certified business advisor, level II, and Stephen Kilgore, senior business advisor, became a certified business advisor, level III.

“I’m very proud of all the hard work our staff has put in to make these accomplishments possible,” Harper said. “We have plans to continually raise the bar of excellence for this organization. By doing so, we’ll help improve the economic fortunes of this entire region we serve.”
