Ashley Winegeart, a senior at Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, was the first freshman to sign on to the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars softball team.

As a high school junior, Winegeart was named to the All-District Softball First Team for District 27-5A as a shortstop and the All South Texas First Team as a designated hitter. She also played for the Houston Power Gold 18 and under travel ball team during the fall and summer.

She plans to major in business with a concentration in accounting at UHV.   “I like working with money,” she said.

As a dedicated shortstop, she said she doesn’t have time to do a whole lot of other things.

“I like to go to the beach when I can.”

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 80 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development.
