Four Jaguars honored at A.I.I. baseball tournament

University of Houston-Victoria left fielder Austin Kent was named the Most Outstanding Player of the A.I.I. Conference Baseball Tournament and three other Jaguars received all-tournament honors.

Center fielder Ryan Gilbert (Rosenberg), relief pitcher Pete Ontiveros (Pearland) and designated hitter David Baker (Houston) all received all-tournament recognition.

Kent (Austin) pace the Jaguars’ offensive attack going 9-for-18 with 10 runs scored, three RBI, three home runs, a double and a stolen base from his leadoff position in the lineup. He also had six putouts and five assists, including four putouts and five assists in the championship game win over Lambuth.

Gilbert hit at a .471 clip in the four games going 8-for-17 at the plate with five runs, four RBI, a double and two stolen bases. He also had 13 putouts and two assists in the field.

Baker turned in a .444 performance going 8-for-18 with six RBI, four runs, a home run, four doubles and a stolen base.

Ontiveros appeared in all four games for the Jaguars without allowing a run over six innings as he picked up a win and two saves. He allowed just four hits and a walk, while striking out three.

Joining the four Jaguars on the all-tournament squad were Bart White, Mike Davis and Mitch McClay of Lambuth, James Howell and Aryo Fleming of LSU-Alexandria, and Adam Duncan, Matt Wilson and Randy Adams of Thomas University.

UHV defeated Lambuth 17-13 in the championship game for its second straight conference title.
