Free Event at UHV to Assist Financial Aid Applicants

On Wednesday, September 20, The University of Houston-Victoria Letting Education Achieve Dreams initiative will host a workshop to assist in the process of filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The event is free to the public and will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Multi-Purpose Room.

High school seniors, parents wanting their children to attend college, and adults interested in furthering their own education are all encouraged to attend. Representatives will be at the event to answer questions and assist applicants in filling out the FAFSA online. Translators will also be available for Spanish-speaking applicants.

The workshop is being hosted in collaboration with Bank of America Student Lending, which is sponsoring two $500 scholarships to be given away at the event. Students must be in attendance at the workshop to be eligible for the drawing. Scholarships will be dispersed when the winning students enroll in the college of their choice.

The event will also feature a free barbecue dinner. Childcare will be provided, and pizza will be served to younger children. Because seating is limited and a large turn-out is expected, persons interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP at 570-4377. Attendees will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.

UHV LEAD is also collaborating with the UHV Financial Aid Department, the VC Educational Opportunity Center, Victoria Independent School District and the Latina Forum to make this workshop possible. For more information, contact Ersilia Garcia at (361) 570-4144.
