UHV signs 3 from Alvin Community College
Cayla Dluhos, from Angleton, ranked second on the team in runs scored and RBI and was named to the all-conference team. Dluhos will be counted on to get things started for the Jaguars.
“Cayla will be a spark plug for the Jaguars and fit in nicely at the top of the lineup, Lambeth said. “She also brings a great defensive game to the field as well.”
Dluhos had a .980 fielding percentage in 2007.
Alice native Kimberly Galvan can play first or third according to Lambeth and is expected to be a run producer for the Jaguars. In 2 seasons at ACC, Galvan batted .292 and drove in 58 runs. She hit 24 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs.
“Kim is as solid defensively as she is at the plate,” Lambeth said. “The fact she can play both first and third gives us versatility and the ability to match up well with the opposition every game.”
Jessica Salas played second at ACC but can also play the outfield.
“Jessica brings speed and a good glove to the Jaguars,” Lambeth said.
Salas committed only 4 errors in 45 games in 2007 and stole 13 bases in 16 attempts, tops on the team in 2007. Salas is a native of Pasadena and played high school softball for Deer Park.
The Jaguars’ inaugural NAIA softball season begins in February 2008.
