UHV School of Business Administration passes accreditation review

The University of Houston-Victoria School of Business Administration remains one of the top business schools in the world after completing its fifth-year review and re-accreditation by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

To maintain accreditation, a business program undergoes a rigorous review every five years. The school must demonstrate its continued commitment to 21 quality standards related to faculty qualification, strategic management and assurance of learning. Less than 5 percent of business schools worldwide earn this mark of excellence.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

The AACSB accreditation is in addition to UHV’s accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The AACSB accreditation has a major impact on the School of Business Administration’s enrollment and sends a message that the school offers a quality, prestigious education.

“The UHV School of Business Administration is proud to continue its tradition of excellence in business education,” said Farhang Niroomand, dean of the school. “The process of AACSB accreditation is rigorous and demanding, and this review confirms UHV’s ongoing dedication to offering our students the best education available. This offers our students a distinct advantage in education and on their resumes and job applications.”

As part of the review process, the school had to prepare several reports and document a myriad of information, including enrollment data, student to teacher ratios, and program and course assessments. That information was then given to AACSB and its visiting reviewers.

As part of the accreditation process, reviewers from AACSB came to UHV in February and met with representatives of the School of Business Administration. The reviewers talked with members of the faculty and staff, donors, administrators and members of the Dean’s Advisory Council.

“During the conversation, we answered a lot of questions and took part in a dialogue about the school,” said Chris Carmouche, executive vice president and general counsel of Post Oak Bank in Houston and chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council. “A lot of progress could be shown from the previous review, and a lot of progress is planned for the future. We want to continue to improve and move the school forward through a multitude of growth opportunities.”

The school received its initial accreditation in 2005 and must undergo a review every five years. Since the 2010 accreditation review, the school has received numerous honors and recognitions including:
