Facilities assistant director selected as 2015 UHV Employee of the Year

The announcement was made during Tuesday’s UHV Faculty & Staff Recognition Luncheon.

Charlie Striedel, assistant director of University of Houston-Victoria Facilities Services, was named the 2015 Employee of the Year on Tuesday at the university’s Faculty & Staff Recognition Luncheon.

University employees attended the event to recognize faculty and staff members celebrating employment anniversaries and find out who would take home Employee of the Year honors.

Striedel has worked at UHV since 2004 and has held the assistant director position since 2010. Striedel hires and trains all new custodians and supervises the department’s safety program. He’s also in charge of moving and storage as well as special events setup.

“Charlie is an indispensable part of the facilities team,” said Kevin Myers, UHV Facilities Services director. “There is literally no job he can’t do or won’t do for the university and very few that he hasn’t done.”

Striedel was caught off guard when he learned about the honor.

“I am quite pleased with the award,” Striedel said. “I’ve enjoyed working for the university for the past 12 years. It’s nice to be rewarded for my efforts.”

Striedel said his favorite part of his job is interacting with faculty and staff members.

“I enjoy meeting everyone I come across during my job and helping them get things accomplished,” he said.

UHV staff members cast votes on an email ballot listing each 2015 UHV Employee of the Month. In addition to Striedel, others listed on the ballot were:

  • June Nelson, financial report manager
  • Debra Quill, administrative secretary in the School of Arts & Sciences
  • Zoeann Byerly, financial aid specialist
  • Madison Guerrero, Letting Education Achieve Dreams & Student Recruitment coordinator

  • Kei Kei Wilson, instructional technology specialist in the School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development
  • Debbie George, financial aid specialist

Striedel received a $500 check, a UHV T-shirt and a plaque. His name also will be engraved on an Employee of the Year plaque displayed in UHV University West.

A second luncheon for faculty and staff will take place at UH Sugar Land on March 7 for those UHV employees who work at that teaching center, the UH System at Cinco Ranch and the Houston Community College Katy campus.
