Giving Tree ready to receive donations

Megan Huerta, left, a University of Houston-Victoria graduate student and Student Government Association president, takes some ornaments Monday from Christina Chavarria, a UHV junior and the Jaguar Activities Board vice chair, while decorating the UHV Giving Tree. UHV students, faculty and staff and community members are invited to donate items to benefit four local nonprofit organizations: Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, Dorothy H. O’Connor Pet Adoption Center, Mid-Coast Family Services and the Old Landmark Committee of Victoria. The Giving Tree runs until Dec. 8, and donation items should be left under the tree in the UHV University Center lobby, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. A list of needed items for each organization is posted on the SGA website at www.uhv.edu/student-government-association.

The University of Houston-Victoria, located in the heart of the Coastal Bend region since 1973 in Victoria, Texas, offers courses leading to more than 80 academic programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development. UHV provides face-to-face classes at its Victoria campus, as well as an instructional site in Katy, Texas, and online classes that students can take from anywhere. UHV supports the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Opportunities for All initiative to increase awareness about state colleges and universities and the important role they have in providing a high-quality and accessible education to an increasingly diverse student population, as well as contributing to regional and state economic development.
