Prospective, current students invited to UHV Katy open house

Houston area transfer and graduate students considering applying for acceptance to the University of Houston-Victoria or current students preparing for the summer and fall semesters can get the information they need April 20 during an open house at UHV Katy.

“Now that UHV has been in Katy for a while, we want to reach out to the community and make our presence more widely known,” UHV President Vic Morgan said. “The open house is an excellent opportunity for that, and it will give prospective transfer and graduate students, and current students the opportunity to receive the individual help and guidance they need to succeed.”

The UHV Katy Summer/Fall Open House will focus on answering the questions of interested transfer and graduate students, and helping current students enroll for the summer and fall semesters. The event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. April 20 at UHV Katy, 2002 W. Grand Parkway N., Building 2. It is free and open to the public. UHV summer and fall registration begins Monday.

“We want to help people new to the university or current students who want to continue their studies be sure they are ready to enroll and register for classes,” said Denee Thomas, UHV assistant vice president for enrollment management. “We will have people from multiple offices and advisors available to help prospective or current students enroll or just answer questions.”

During the open house, attendees will be able to speak with UHV admissions specialists, financial aid specialists, career services experts and representatives from the UHV International Programs Office.

Academic advisors also will be available to meet with current students. The advisors can give inquiring students information about available academic programs and help new and continuing students select a schedule of courses to sign up for the summer or fall. They also will be able to help students who want to change majors.

“UHV’s academic advisors are focused on helping students navigate their degree program as efficiently as possible,” Thomas said. “They can show students what materials or courses are necessary for program completion and find answers to any program-related question.”

The UHV Katy Open House event is held every spring and fall. Although it is largely focused on helping students prepare for enrollment, it also is an opportunity for interested students to explore the facility and ask questions before applying for admission.

“Any question that students may have, we want to be able to answer,” Thomas said. “We want students to know that UHV is ready to help them every step of the way, from inquiring to graduating.”

Those who are unable to attend the open house can attend the Summer/Fall Registration Event from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at UHV Katy or schedule a meeting with an academic advisor or recruiter for personalized help. Recruiters can be reached by emailing recruitment@uhv.edu.
