Upcoming UHV job fair matches potential teachers to school districts

The public can become educated about job opportunities in many South Texas school districts at the Fall 2008 Teacher Job Fair organized by the University of Houston-Victoria.

Everyone is invited to attend from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 15 in the Multipurpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson.

"If you are looking for a job with a school district, or if your school district is looking for employees, this is a great place to start," said Eunice Mesa, UHV Career Services coordinator.

"We're bringing in representatives of school districts from around Victoria, Houston and all along the U.S. Highway 59 corridor between them."

The list of participating school districts already includes Goliad, Beeville, Alief, Lamar Consolidated and Klein. Up to 35 districts are expected to be represented. Officials will be looking for teachers, assistant teachers and paraprofessionals, Mesa said.

The event also promises to bring in many quality applicants for school districts looking for new employees.

Any school district from the region is welcome to send someone, Mesa said. School district representatives need to register by Oct. 14 and pay a small $40 fee, which includes lunch.

Job seekers don't need to register but are encouraged to dress professionally and bring plenty of resumes to hand out to interested school district representatives.
