UHV invites prospective, current students to Katy open house

KATY – The University of Houston-Victoria at Katy will open its doors July 20 to all prospective transfer and graduate students who want to learn more about the university.

The same event also will serve as a chance for current UHV students to enroll in fall classes, which begin Aug. 28.

The UHV Katy Open House will be from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room on the third floor of UHV Katy, 2002 W. Grand Parkway N., Building 2. It is free and open to the public.

“We are approaching UHV Katy’s one-year anniversary,” said David Cockrum, UHV interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Word has spread about the university, but some Katy area residents may not know what programs we offer or some of the nuts and bolts about admissions, financial aid or international programs. The open house is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and get a better feel for what UHV is all about.”

At UHV Katy, transfer students are able to complete bachelor’s degrees, and graduate students can earn a master’s degree. UHV’s main residential campus is in Victoria for those who want to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and the university has online degree programs that students can take from anywhere.

During the open house, attendees will be able to speak with UHV admissions specialists, financial aid specialists, career services experts and representatives from the UHV International Programs Office.

At 6 p.m., UHV business faculty and alumni will hold an informational session about the university’s Master of Business Administration program.

Advisors from UHV’s three schools – Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; and Education, Health Professions & Human Development – also will be on hand to meet with students. Advisors can give prospective students information about academic programs and help new and continuing students select a schedule of courses. They also will be able to assist students who want to change majors.

“It’s a great time for students to get enrolled without having to make an appointment with an advisor,” Cockrum said. “Fall classes are coming up quickly, so we want to make it easy for students to finish their to-do list and get all their questions answered in one place at one time.”
