Two UHV School of Business Administration graduates to be honored

The University of Houston-Victoria will honor two outstanding fall graduates from the School of Business Administration during commencement ceremonies Dec. 13.

Hong Du

Undergraduate student Hong Du of Victoria and graduate student Nagarajan Ravishankar of Katy stood out among the business graduates.

The students are two of nine graduates who will be recognized at fall commencement. Professors at each of the four UHV schools select at least one outstanding graduate each semester from both the graduate and undergraduate programs.

Hong Du earned her Bachelor of Business Administration.

Jonathan Du, an associate professor of accounting, noted Du spoke with him several times about class topics and projects. She also helped other students complete group projects.

“She is a very good thinker,” Du said.

Hong Du completed her coursework while caring for one son and being pregnant with another.

“I really liked the online and night classes,” Du said. “It’s something students with families really appreciate.”

Du plans to take a year off to be with her 1-month-old son and then seek an accounting job.

She advised other students to ask plenty of questions in class to achieve academic excellence.

“That’s how you really learn,” she said.

She thanked her family, especially her husband and children, for their love and support. She also thanked the business professors for their willingness to help her.

Nagarajan Ravishankar

Ravishankar dreams of becoming an international management consultant thanks to his Master of Business Administration with dual concentrations in finance and international business.

He presently works as an information technology finance consultant.

His professors praised his business skills and hard work.

“He was one of the most outstanding students in the classes I have taught so far,” assistant professor Rajan Selvarajan said. “The individual project he completed as part of the Strategic Management Seminar capstone course showed that he has strong business analytical skills.”

Ravishankar advised other students to get to know their professors, who are very personable and willing to help. Students also should listen intently to the details discussed in class, since professors at UHV are great about showing how a concept is applied in the real world, he said.

Ravishankar thanked his professors for their quality instruction and his wife and children for their support.

Graduation will be at 11a.m. Dec. 13 at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy. For more information about ceremonies, contact Nancy Gresham in UHV Special Events at 361-570-4351.
