UHV SBDC offers first-time Advanced QuickBooks series
The University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center is offering its first advanced version of QuickBooks workshop series to aid Crossroads entrepreneurs with their bookkeeping skills and help them learn more about the accounting software.
“The advanced course is taking the most popular sections of our basic QuickBooks series, such as customer invoicing or payroll management, and doing a focused training on each of them,” UHV SBDC Director Joe Humphreys said. “These in depth, topic-specific classes are going to help the QuickBooks user improve their skills and use of the program.”
The Advanced QuickBooks Series is a set of six interactive weekly workshops about using key features of the software. The series runs from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday and Thursday starting Aug. 7 and ending Aug. 30 in the UHV SBDC offices in Laurent Tower, 1908 N. Laurent St., Suite 400. Participants have the option of preregistering and taking a two-day, in-person training for $100 a class or the whole series for $375. Seats will be limited to 10 people.
The series was developed to help individual business owners who have a good basic understanding of QuickBooks and want to learn more about its features. It will be an interactive, hands-on course, and attendees will dive into topics to help make things easier for businesses, showing shortcuts and features to help them in their day-to-day business activities.
“During the workshop, we’ll work through a mock business and demonstrate how to use these key features,” said Whitney Schroeder, UHV SBDC training coordinator. “We’ll spend plenty of time on each topic to ensure attendees retain information, especially on complex topics like payroll and inventory.”
Attendees will receive a hands-on approach to inventory setup at the first session Aug. 7. The rest of the sessions will allow attendees to create a business plan, budget and make projections.
The course will be taught by Mark Martinez, a UHV SBDC business advisor who has been trained and certified by QuickBooks to teach the course.
“We always tell business owners that you have to know your numbers to know your business, and if you don’t know your numbers, you don’t know your business,” Martinez said. “This workshop will be added security, on top of what QuickBooks is already doing for their business.”
The workshop dates and topics will be:
- 7 and 9 – Inventory Setup
- 14 and 16 – Payroll
- 21 and 23 – Creating a Business Plan
- 28 and 30 – Budgeting and Projections
