UHV graduate business program receives ranking

A national Master of Business Administration website recently included one of the UHV School of Business Administration’s graduate programs in its list of the best programs in Texas based on affordability, support services and the quality of the classes.

MBA Central ranked UHV’s online Global MBA program 12th in its 20 Best Texas Online MBA Programs 2019 list.

“UHV has a history of leadership when it comes to online learning,” said Jifu Wang, associate dean of the school. “Rankings such as this confirm that we are helping our students take the next step in their careers by enabling them to pursue an education in a convenient, affordable way.”

When compiling the list, the website considered three factors of equal weight: affordability, quality of classes and support services. UHV’s program was considered very affordable because the annual tuition costs less than $15,000. For student services, the website cited US News and World Report’s Online MBA Programs ranking, which included UHV in its list of schools with the best online student support services. UHV’s faculty also work hard to ensure that students receive prompt answers to their questions and requests for assistance, Wang said.

When considering the quality of UHV’s classes, the website looked first at the university’s accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the business school’s AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation. The website also referenced the wide variety of interactive learning opportunities UHV students receive online, such as group projects, real-world business simulations and case studies.

For Fiona Odeyomi, a Houston student earning her Strategic MBA in management, UHV’s online program enabled her to earn her degree while raising three children, working full time as a process engineer and volunteering through her church.

“The online classes allowed me and my classmates to work around our schedules,” she said. “Now, as I am learning about businesses, my classes are helping me gain more perspective on how the business side of the company where I work runs.”

One advantage of her classes at UHV is how her professors include current events in their lessons and online discussions. Those real-world examples made her more aware of how businesses operate in today’s economy, she said. In addition, the faculty helped her better understand how to combine high-level strategic thinking and analytical skills with simple tactics to deliver results.

“Before I started taking business classes, I didn’t have much exposure to balance sheets or accounting and finance,” Odeyomi said. “With the knowledge I’m gaining, I have developed a commercial mindset, which helps me make proactive business decisions. Now that I know more about how businesses operate behind-the-scenes, my MBA will give me the ability to handle large amounts of technical and financial data to determine the key areas that have the most significant impact to the business.”
