Elizabeth Corte, the senior administrative secretary in the University of Houston-Victoria Information Technology Department, is recognized by UHV Interim President Don Smith as the university’s 2010 Employee of the Year.

The senior administrative secretary in the University of Houston-Victoria Information Technology Department was named the university’s 2010 Employee of the Year on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Corte received the top honor at the university’s annual Employee Recognition Luncheon. University employees gathered to recognize those celebrating employment anniversaries at UHV and to honor other employees for their exceptional work.

“Two of the best things about working at UHV are the variety of experiences I get to have here and the great people I work with,” Corte said after the luncheon. “There’s no way I could do my job without the collaboration we have within and among departments.”

A second Employee Recognition Luncheon will take place at the University of Houston System at Sugar Land on Feb. 24 for those UHV employees who work at that teaching center or the UH System at Cinco Ranch.

Corte was voted the Employee of the Year by other UHV staff members from an e-mail ballot listing each 2010 UHV Employee of the Month. In addition to Corte, others listed on the ballot were:

Corte began work at UHV in 2001 as a library assistant in the Victoria College/UHV Library. She moved to the Information Technology Department in 2004 to her current job.

“Elizabeth is extremely hardworking, meticulous in all that she does, can juggle several different tasks simultaneously and does it all with courtesy and a smile,” wrote Joe Ferguson, senior director of Information Technology, when he nominated Corte for the Employee of the Month award she previously received.

In recognition of Corte’s achievement as the 2010 Employee of the Year, she received a $500 check, a UHV T-shirt and a plaque. Her name also was engraved on the Employee of the Year plaque displayed in UHV University West.
