Jaguars baseball, softball teams head to A.I.I. Conference tournaments

UHV baseball team headed to Georgia

The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars will be seeded second at next week’s Association of Independent Institutions Conference baseball tournament in Thomasville, Georgia and hosted by Thomas University.

The Jaguars (29-23) will face third-seeded Talladega College (25-18) in the opening game on Wednesday, May 4 at 1 p.m. Top-seeded California State University-San Marcos (29-17) will meet host Thomas (18-26) in the other opening-round game at 5 p.m.

Tournament action resumes on Thursday, May 5 with three games scheduled for 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. with the championship game schedule for Friday, May 6 at noon.

The Jaguars have won back-to-back A.I.I. Conference titles and will be looking to defend last year’s crown.

Jaguars softball seeded No. 3 in A.I.I. tournament

The 9th-ranked University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars softball team drew the No. 3 seed for next week’s Association of Independent Institutions Conference softball tournament to be played in San Marcos, Calif., and hosted by California State University-San Marcos.

CSUSM, ranked No. 3, drew the top seed for the tournament, while Central Baptist College, ranked No. 4, is seeded No. 2. Also in the field is defending national champion Simon Fraser, along with the University of British Columbia and Patten University.

The Jaguars will face No. 6-seed Patten in the opening round on Thursday, May 5 at 1 p.m. Simon Fraser, the No. 4 seed, takes on No. 5-seed British Columbia in the opening game at 11 a.m. Cal. State-San Marcos meets the winner of the opening game at 4 p.m., with Central Baptist taking on the Game 2 winner at 6 p.m.
