Reception slated for UHV Adult and Higher Education
Professors from the University of Houston-Victoria’s new Adult and Higher Education program are inviting current and prospective master’s-level students to a reception to find out more about the degree.

The reception will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 in the President’s Conference Room on the third floor of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. It is sponsored by Thomas Cox, program director; Margaret Rice, UHV chief of staff; Robin Cadle, director of Stewardship and Planned Giving; and students already working toward their master’s in Adult and Higher Education through the UHV School of Education & Human Development.
Cox and Rice, who teach in the Adult and Higher Education program, will discuss the new degree offering, and Cadle will talk about alumni relations. Current students will help prospective students learn more about the program, discuss its benefits to their current positions and have the opportunity to meet each other and network.
“This new degree program is geared toward educators who want to teach or work with adults or in higher education institutions,” Cox said. “It has been designed so that students can take online classes and work at their own pace at times convenient to them, though some face-to-face classes also may be offered in the Victoria area.”
The master’s degree will help an educator qualify for various positions such as athletics director, continuing education specialist, coordinator, curriculum specialist, department chairman, higher education consultant, program director, adult basic educator, community educator, cooperative extension educator, corporate trainer, health educator, human resources director and religious educator.
The program consists of 36 to 39 semester credit hours and includes online courses such as “The Adult Learner,” “Self-Directed Learning,” “Adult Development,” “Higher Education Finance,” “Educational Leadership in Organizations,” “The Community College,” “The College Student” and “Introduction to Student Affairs.”
