UHV Career Fair to match employers, job-seeking students
University of Houston-Victoria students nearing graduation and zeroing in on a career and area employers needing qualified individuals to fill positions are encouraged to meet at an upcoming university event.
The UHV Career Fair will bring together employers looking for full-time employees and students looking for work from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 29 in the Multi-Purpose Room of the UHV University Center, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St. UHV alumni and students who graduate in December or the spring are encouraged to attend.
The potential for job hunters may be better this year as the Victoria area has the highest level of employment in the state, thanks to shale oil production and additional manufacturing jobs.
“We are fortunate in our area because there have been employers anxious to meet potential applicants,” said Amy Hatmaker, UHV career services specialist.
Employers searching for interns also are welcome. Eleven employers already have signed up three weeks before the event.
UHV Career Services is offering new twists to this year’s career fair. Employers will have a chance to give an informational session before the event to explain what their company does and give more detailed information to job seekers.
Also, students at the UH System at Sugar Land, where UHV offers many of its programs, will be able to attend the information sessions via Interactive Television. This is the first time that this service has been offered.
“This is a good thing to offer since there is such a large pool of potential employees in that area, who may not be able to drive to Victoria on that day,” Hatmaker said.
The UHV Career Fair is free for students and university alumni.
Students are encouraged to dress professionally and bring plenty of copies of their resume. Alumni and students who want to know which information sessions are scheduled can go to www.uhv.edu/career-services/ and click the upcoming events link.
Employers may sign up at https://myinterfase.com/uhv/employer/home.aspx. There is a $25 fee which includes lunch for two recruiters. The deadline is Nov. 28, but a registration late fee will be applied after Nov. 26.
