UHV SBDC to host financial adviser's entrepreneurship workshop

Michele Rohde

An upcoming workshop hosted by the University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center will focus on entrepreneurs getting the most out of their business.

Michele Rohde, a Victoria-based financial adviser for Edward Jones, will give a talk on “The Entrepreneurial Equation” from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 30 in the UHV SBDC conference room, 3402 N. Ben Wilson St.

“I really enjoy reinforcing our company slogan, which is ‘making sense of investing,’” Rohde said. “That’s why I enjoy teaching people and educating them about a topic that sometimes is not clear.”

Victoria native Rohde has been an Edward Jones financial adviser since 2006. She previously worked as a marketing manager and a licensed insurance agent. She is a UHV alumna who received her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2006.

Rohde is president of the American Business Women’s Association Victoria Professional Express Network chapter and is involved with the Federation of Insurance Women in Texas and the Victoria Chamber of Commerce. In 2011, she won best financial adviser in a Victoria Advocate poll.

The seminar will give ideas for making the most of a business, with ideas for using banking, retirement and insurance tools to build and protect a business according to short- and long-term goals.

Participants will learn how to set up a budget that works for their business through understanding loans, borrowing and the importance of managing credit and debt.

“This will be an excellent program from a local financial consultant who understands investments and the area small-business market,” SBDC Interim Director Joe Humphreys said. “This is a workshop where participants can learn how to make financial decisions that will help their business run as efficiently as possible.”

The event is free, and participants do not need to be a client of the UHV SBDC. Registration is requested by the day of the event by calling 361-485-4485 or emailing Jean Smith, SBDC training coordinator, at sbdc@uhv.edu.
