UHV Students Attend Leadership Conference
This week, eight students from the University of Houston-Victoria traveled to Florida to take part in the National Conference on Student Leadership. During the conference, held November 16-19, students participated in workshops focused on developing leadership and organizational management skills.
“I know our students will take full advantage of this opportunity,” said Minnie Urbano, Student Activities and Services manager. “I’m really pleased we are able to facilitate their participation in this event, which will benefit them immediately and in the long-term.”
Held annually since 1978, the NCSL provides university students and administrators the opportunity to discuss shared objectives and common challenges. This year’s conference centered on the theme “Positive Choices = Positive Change” and featured workshops on topics as varied as addressing apathy on campus to fostering diversity.
“At UHV, we strive to provide a comprehensive university experience, so I’m delighted that, in addition to receiving first-rate instruction in the classroom, our students can also participate in activities that benefit them personally and professionally,” said UHV President Tim Hudson.
Student leaders from UHV are being sponsored at the conference by the Office of Student Activities and Services in cooperation with the organizations they represent, including the Student Senate, the Mexican American Student Organization, and Gamma Beta Phi. Travel costs, accommodation, meals and conference registration fees were covered for the students.
“I was honored to have been elected to attend on behalf of our fine university,” said UHV student Lacey Bonner before departing to the conference. “I love volunteering and holding an active role as a student at UHV.”
Other UHV students selected to attend the conference are Estrella Arnold, Kathy Foil, Yolanda Gonzales, Shauna Holder, Keith Merrick, Danny Ochoa, and Sonya Sosa.
