Arizona signs UHV pitcher

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed University of Houston-Victoria pitcher Tanner Hamilton to a free-agent contract.
Hamilton, who finished the 2012 season with a 4-4 record for the Jaguars, is expected to report to extended spring training in Phoenix and will be assigned from there. His three options are to stay in Phoenix for more instructional league, be assigned to a team in a rookie league or short season in Class A.
In his one season with the Jaguars he compiled a 5.83 ERA as he allowed 50 runs on 65 hits and 30 walks, while striking out 38 over 54 innings. He made 12 appearances with 10 starts and one complete game.
He was currently playing with the Regina Red Sox in the Western Major Baseball League where he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In his only start he tossed seven shutout innings allowing four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.
