Ashley Furniture named official furniture sponsor for UHV dorms

The University of Houston-Victoria and Ashley Furniture HomeStore recently signed a contract to make the company the official furniture sponsor of UHV residence halls, which includes placing furniture from the Victoria store into the lobbies of all dorms.

Ashley Furniture already has furnished new red and black couches, chairs and tables inside the lobby of Jaguar Hall, 2705 Houston Highway. The company will supply furniture for the Jaguar Court lobby this fall and also will do so in Jaguar Suites, an apartment-style dormitory for sophomores scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.

“We would like to sincerely thank Ashley Furniture HomeStore for the generosity shown to our students,” UHV President Phil Castille said. “This agreement means students at our residence halls now and in the near future will have more attractive and comfortable surroundings.”

Castille said residents and visitors will enjoy the new look in the Jaguar Hall lobby.

“The lobby is a focal point as it’s the first thing current students, prospective students, parents and the public see when they enter our residence halls,” he said. “The new furniture now in place at Jaguar Hall is eye-catching and makes the lobby much more appealing.”

Earlier this year, Amy Mundy, UHV director of corporate and foundation relations, was having lunch at Jaguar Hall with Paige Streiff, who co-owns the Victoria Ashley Furniture with Ken Stimson, and Store Manager Tami Hysell. After lunch, Streiff and Hysell saw some of the outdated furniture in the lobby and asked if they could redecorate.

“We saw the need and decided we would like to donate furniture that would be a good fit for the lobby,” Streiff said. “One of the things Ashley Furniture HomeStore prides itself on is giving back to the community.”

Streiff said the donation was a way to reach a new audience and showcase some of the items from the Victoria store.

“New students and their parents may be in the market for new furniture, so we wanted to make an impression with the lobby,” Streiff said. “We offer furniture that students on a budget can afford.”

With the contract now in place, plans are taking shape for new furniture for Jaguar Court, located at 2605 Houston Highway.

“Ashley Furniture HomeStore takes great pride in being the official furniture sponsor for UHV,” Streiff said.
